FINE ARTS

St. Petersburg Christian has a long-standing commitment to the arts, believing that literacy in the arts is an important part of every child's education.  Our Fine Arts Department offers, Band, Music, Musical Theatre, and Visual Art.

Bi-annual Art Shows exhibit hundreds of pieces of outstanding work of all age groups. SPCS student art is submitted to local, regional and state competitions in both secular and Christian School arenas, typically receiving accolades and awards making our students exemplary artists.

Students are given opportunities to participate, perform, and compete in various concerts, auditions, and competitions around the state. Ultimately, we hope to send our students into the world as lifelong learners who embrace the performing arts with passion.

Students also prepare for two concerts a year, along with the SPCS Talent show.

VISUAL ART

Students receive specialized art instruction beginning in kindergarten. Taught by a skilled artist and educator, students are encouraged to express themselves while learning the attributes of line and form, symmetry and asymmetry. A wide variety of media are used, from tempera and watercolor to clay and acrylics. Art History is incorporated into the curriculum, giving students the opportunity to learn about the characteristics and outstanding work of many artists and periods.

BAND

Students in 5th through 8th grade are encouraged to choose band as an elective. Band students are taught the care and techniques required to be a skillful musician. The curriculum starts students with a basic method book in beginning band and progresses with tunes in various generes, worship songs and standard band literature. Studies in music theory and composition are also part of the curriculum. Several performance outlets in our community teach students to use music to encourage others and worship God.
